Indicative publication pricing

These figures are indicative. The exact amount is always calculated from your finished book and shown to you before you pay — nothing is ever charged without you seeing the total first. All amounts are in US dollars.

Starting your book or short story — $10 one-off

A single $10 charge starts the project and switches on the full editing studio for that book or short story: writing and rewriting the pages, moving and captioning photos, changing the title, adding pages, and preparing it for print or for sale.

There is nothing else to pay to write or edit. The charge is per book or short story, paid once.

Printing a paperback

A printed copy is made to order. The cost is a binding charge of $6 plus $0.03 for every finished page.

Finished lengthIndicative print cost per copy
100 pages$9
200 pages$12
350 pages$16.50

The real amount is worked out from your actual page count once the book is finished, so a shorter book costs less than the examples above.

Delivery

Copies are printed in 24 business days and then travel by the service you choose. Indicative rates for a single copy:

ServiceRateArrives in
Standard (Mail)$4.99716 business days
Ground$7.99511 business days
Expedited$14.9948 business days
Express$29.9936 business days

Extra copies in the same order add a small amount each (about $2.50 per additional copy). Delivery is always priced and confirmed before payment.

Short stories and anthologies

A single short story is $3. A custom book of short stories is priced per story added, plus the same printing charge — $6 binding and $0.03 a page — up to a maximum of 350 pages.

A digital copy alongside the printed book is $5. The builder shows the running total as you add stories.

Selling on Real Life Stories

Listing a finished book in the shop costs nothing extra. The shop price is worked out from the length of the book and the number of photographs in it, with a modest margin, so longer and more illustrated books sit a little higher.

Buyers pay printing and delivery on top of that price at checkout, and they see every line of it before paying.

What is never charged

  • No subscription and no monthly fee.
  • No charge for writing, rewriting or adding pages.
  • No charge for keeping a draft for as long as you like.
  • No charge for storing your photographs.

Prices can change as printing and delivery costs change; the amount shown to you at the time of payment is the amount charged. Return to the bookshop.
